16 Essential Things to Remember to Bring to the Beach

(Mario A. ReGu)

How many times have you gone to the beach on your vacation and realized that you should have brought something along with you?

Don’t worry – it happens to the best of us. Sometimes it happens when we're already halfway there and it's too late to turn back. Sometimes it's when we're lying on our beach towels and reaching for something that isn't there. Or maybe it occurs as we're heading back to our car after our sunbaked day. That’s why we’ve gathered a comprehensive list of beach day necessities to help make your day that much more relaxed and rewarding.

LOTS OF WATER

Don’t forget to bring along plenty of H2O. When baking in the sun all day, even more water intake is required than on a regular day.

SNACKS Nothing increases your appetite quite like a day of running in the sand and wave surfing. Make sure that you bring plenty of snacks to keep your energy up.

SUNSCREEN

The obvious things can sometimes be the most overlooked. Don’t forget to pack sunscreen and know which SPF is best for you and your family!

BEACH CHAIRS Don’t feel like lying down all day? Pack some beach chairs! Check out these top 10 beach chairs if you need help deciding which is best for you!

A WHISTLE

When the beach is crowded, it’s really easy to accidentally lose sight of your child or vice versa. You see your child emerge from the water but not know where you are sitting. To remedy that, you can bring along a “family whistle” so your family members will recognize the sound and end up back by your side if they accidentally stray a little too far.

AN EXTRA BLANKET

Keep the towels for drying off. Putting a big blanket on the sand to lie upon will give you plenty of room. Plus, blankets tend to be heavier and easier to weigh down on the sand. Believe us, nothing is worse than when your towel blows away!

BABY POWDER

Good-bye, sandy feet! Use baby powder to get the sand right off – it works like magic!

FLIP FLOPS Seriously, don’t forget your flip flops. There's nothing worse than having to walk across the hot sand in your bare feet. And it's a real drag trying to put your socks or sneakers back on after you’ve spent the day soaking up the sun, sand, water and oil. Simply slip your flip flops on and you're done and gone.

A CHANGE OF CLOTHES

Ever get back to the car just to realize that you and your wet bathing suits and towels are about to ruin your car seats? Bringing an extra pair of clothes will not only help you feel your most comfortable on the ride home, but it’ll make your seats happy, too.

A RADIO

There’s nothing like beach jams. Energize the atmosphere with some music, but make sure to respect your neighbors!

A BOOK OR MAGAZINE

Laying down for hours without entertainment not really your thing? Bring some light reading material to fill the void when your family is still playing but you’re getting a little bored of the sand and sun.

AN UMBRELLA

Beach sun can be harsh. Bring an umbrella for a shady retreat for the kids or anybody else who might need to get out of the sun for a bit.

SUNGLASSES (AND A HAT!)

For those who don’t typically wear sunglasses, remembering to pack a pair for your beach day might not seem so top-of-mind. And bring a hat too! It can help when the sun starts bearing down a little too much.

GAMES Beach games are the best games! Whether it’s a Frisbee, a football, Kan Jam or just some classic shovels and pails, everybody loves bonding over some classic beach-time fun!

A FIRST-AID KIT

Keep this kit in the car or bring it to the beach with you. You’ll be so relieved when it comes in handy. Hopefully, you'll never need it but you never know.

BINOCULARS Just buy a cheap pair to keep in your beach bag. You can check on your kids while they’re swimming and relax knowing they're just fine.
